Crazy Sunday Afternoon at Hungaroring | Bottas & Stroll the Antagonists | RedBull left Frantic | Formula1

Hungarian Grand Prix, Formula1

Esteban Ocon takes socking Win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel Disqualified after finishing second, Strategic mishap by Mercedes costing Hamilton his 100th Win

With some least likely podium finishes to the race, this Formula1 season is giving some extremely heart trenching races. Turn 1 turned out to be the centre stage of the race and sealed its fate. Podium comprise of Esteban Ocon (1), Lewis Hamilton (2) and Carlos Sainz (3).

Valtteri Bottas & Lance Stroll turned out to be one the antagonists of the turn one incident, inviting 5 place grid penalty for the Belgian Grand Prix

Valtteri along with him took Norris and Perez out of the race after turn 1 itself as the race was red-flagged. Lance Stroll locked up and took Charles Leclerc with him. A total of 5 cars were forced into retirement just after turn 1 of the first lap.

Verstappen also suffered a shunt and was left handicapped for the rest of the race as he lost the Barge board on the right side of his Car.

This victory for Ocon is his first win since his 2015 GP3 Series (Now F3) season opener win at Circuit de Catalunya. He is also the first French driver to win a Grand Prix with a French car and French engine since Alain Prost did so for Renault in 1983.

Sebastian Vettel who finished second has been disqualified by the stewards as they were unable to collect the required fuel sample. Every team must submit at least 1 litre of fuel anytime during the race but only 0.3 litres of fuel could be collected from Sebastian's car.

Now Lewis Moves to second place and Carlos Sainz to third place. Good news for both of them and a worrying fact for the RedBull team. This is the second podium of the season for Carlos Sainz.

What we MISSED due to the Turn 1 incident

1. Title rivals going at each other- Verstappen was off to a good start to the race. We could have seen some great wheel to wheel action and strategies at play but all that just went out of the window.

2. Hamilton's 100th Win - Mercedes tyre strategy mishap costing Hamilton his 100th F1 win.

3. Fight for third place in the championship - As three drivers are fighting for that 3rd place in the driver's championship (which includes Bottas, Perez and Norris), we would have seen some great drive and overtakes.

What we got to WITNESS (Did not Disappoint)

1. An impressive fight for the Win between 4 time World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Alpine's Esteban Ocon.

2. Lewis Hamilton's charge through the field. Some great wheel to wheel action between two world Champions i.e. Alonso and Lewis.

3. Williams Driver's scoring points. Nicholas Latifi and George Russell finished in the top 10 for the first time at Williams. Latifi at 8th and Russell at 9th position.

4. Two F1 rookies going against each other. Mick Schumacher and George Russell should their skills on the track with a great wheel to wheel action.

RedBull's horrific run continues

RedBull had a weekend to forget at the Silverstone and would have hoped to bounce back at the Hungaroring. It started a bit slow for them as Mercedes looked pretty quick the whole weekend.

They qualified on the second row behind both Mercedes cars with a significant time deficit. They were on the back foot since then.

Their race got ruined at the very beginning as Bottas took out Perez and Verstappen. Verstappen somehow continued in desperation to not exceed the gap between him and Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers Championship but that hardly mattered.

RedBull needs to get their act right somehow and come back hard at Mercedes or else they will be playing a chasing game this season as well.

What to look forward to

As the teams head for the Summer break, there are heaps of questions that need answers. Some of them are listed below.

1. The Driver lineup for 2022 - George Russell and Valtteri Bottas fiasco needs clarity and as per Toto Wolf, they have already made the decision that just needs to be revealed.
RedBull's second seat is also up for discussion, it will be interesting to see if that gets sorted out.
A couple of seats at Williams and Alfa Romeo is also not decided yet.

2. Resurgence of RedBull - Can RedBull come back from this sudden dip in performance and make the second half of the season as exciting as it was till now.

3. Can Mclaren finish the season as the third-best team - Mclaren, thanks to Lando Norris is firmly placed on the path to be the third-best team. Can Ferrari overtake them?
